🍿 Watched Margin Call (2011) ★★

A rectangular image with a review of the movie Margin Call. The show poster is on the left and the review on the right side. Across the bottom is a rating of Avoid Okay Good Great! with Okay selected. The review reads: The poster billed it at the time as the Best Wall Street Film Yet. I beg to differ. Most of the actors seemed to be phoning it in. The dramatic tension just didn’t build enough to be important. It’s okay but all of these actors had been in much better films at this stage of their careers.

🍿 Watched Fate of the Furious (2017) ★

A rectangular image with a review of the movie Fate of the Furious. The show poster is on the left and the review on the right side. Across the bottom is a rating of Avoid Okay Good Great! with Avoid selected. The review reads: These movies are so bad, how did they keep getting made.

🍿 Watched Furious 7 (2015) ★

A rectangular image with a review of the movie Furious 7. The show poster is on the left and the review on the right side. Across the bottom is a rating of Avoid Okay Good Great! with Avoid selected. The review reads: How have they made seven of these? The acting is wooden, the dialogue is terrible. Unfortunately it was my niece’s turn to pick a movie so I was obliged to sit through it.

🍿 Watched Page Eight (2011) ★★

A rectangular image with a review of the movie Page Eight. The show poster is on the left and the review on the right side. Across the bottom is a rating of Avoid Okay Good Great! with Okay selected. The review reads: Was this trying to create suspense? Was it aiming for a Le Carre level of intrigue? Missed the mark on both counts if it was. Watchable but your time would be better spent on other films or maybe Slow Horses on Apple TV.

🍿 Dune: Part Two - he’s not the messiah he’s just a very naughty boy ★★½

A rectangular image with a review of the movie Dune: Part Two (2024). The movie poster is on the left and the review on the right side. Across the bottom is a rating of Poor Okay Good Great with Okay selected. The review reads: I think I'm a bit out of step with the general consensus on this one. It's visually spectacular and I'm glad I saw it on the big screen but it's longer than it needs to be and clearly setting up for a third movie. There was a meme doing the rounds on instagram that is the scene from Life of Brian where he tells his followers he's not the messiah. The meme subtitle was Dune Part Two spoilers without the context and it was spot on. I prefer the first movie over this second part.

🍿 Watched Lift (2024) ★★

A rectangular image with a review of the movie Lift. The show poster is on the left and the review on the right side. Across the bottom is a rating of Avoid Okay Good Great! with Avoid selected. The review reads: If you’re on the couch on a Friday night and can’t find anything else to watch then this will do, you’ll miss nothing if you go to sleep. A wannabe Ocean’s movie it comes nowhere near. There’s a setup for a second one but Netflix should save their money.

🍿 Sunday night viewing was Wonka (2023) ★★½

A rectangular image with a review of the movie - Wonka. The left third contains the movie poster and the review is in other two-thirds. Across the bottom is a rating of Poor Okay Good Great with Okay selected. The review reads: A bit of light entertainment on a Sunday night. Musical numbers so if that's not your thing then steer clear. You won't remember any of the songs, they're entertaining in the moment but nothing you'd play the soundtrack later to hear again. A good try at imagining the origin story for Willy Wonka but doesn't have the quirky weirdness of a Roald Dahl story that the earlier Willy Wonka movies captured.

🍿 Ate some popcorn and watched The Marvels (2023) ★★★½

A green rectangle with the poster for The Marvels movie on the left third and the review on the remaining two thirds. Across the bottom is a rating of Poor Okay Good Great with Good selected. The review reads: At less than two hours this was a great pick for a Saturday night movie. There's enough explanation that you don't need to have seen the first movie, Ms Marvel or Wandavision, in terms of backstory for the three lead characters. The pace is good, the humour and chemistry between the leads is great and adds to the overall fun vibe of the movie. Not having to keep track of eight characters and 15 different storylines, eight of which are continuing from previous movies or tv shows, made for a refreshing change to some other marvel movies.

🍿 Watched Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023) ★

A green card with a review of Aquaman the Lost Kingdom. The movie poster is on the left and the review on the right. The review says: Sometimes sequels should not be made, particularly when the first movie was fairly ordinary. This was one of those times. Two hours of my life I'll never get back.

🍿 Watched Tank Girl (1995) ★★☆

A green card with a review of the 1995 movie Tank Girl. The movie poster is on the left side and the review on the right. The review says: A post-apocalyptic sci-fi film I've been meaning to watch for ages given its cult status. For a 1995 adaptation of a comic book it was okay with parts akin to the comic book splash action page. The special effects are not the overdone CGI green screen we suffer through with the latest marvel movies. Plenty of corny explosions and the baddies shoot as poorly as stormtroopers in a Star Wars movie. The soundtrack by Courtney Love gets a little much in some parts but overall was pretty good.
