📺 Finished watching A Gentleman in Moscow (2024) ★★★½

A rectangular image with a review of the television series A Gentleman in Moscow (Season 1). The show poster is on the left and the review on the right side. Across the bottom is a rating of Poor Okay Good Great with Good selected. The review reads: I really enjoyed this show. It had a nice flow to the story as it moved through the years and didn't feel like it was jumping ahead just for the sake of it. Ewan McGregor played the fallen aristocrat very well, you could see him adapting to his changed circumstances as time went by. The sort of show you could binge but just as easily watch at leisure over a few weeks as each episode is complete. Not quite stand alone but not leaving things hanging as a build up to the next episode.

📺 Finished watching Star Trek: Discovery (Season 5, 2024) ★★½

A rectangular image with a review of the television series Star Trek: Discovery (Season 5). The show poster is on the left and the review on the right side. Across the bottom is a rating of Poor Okay Good Great with Okay selected. The review reads: A life long Star Trek fan, I’d been struggling to stay with this show in the previous two seasons. It’s definitely one which has had fans very clearly in the love or hate camps. Maybe knowing it was the final season meant the writers aimed higher and wanted to give a sense of completion but this season was an improvement on the previous two and I came to enjoy it again. All things considered, not as good as the first two seasons but a satisfactory conclusion.

📺 Finished watching Shrinking (Season 1, 2023) ★★★★½

A rectangular image with a review of the television series Shrinking (Season 1). The show poster is on the left and the review on the right side. Across the bottom is a rating of Poor Okay Good Great with Great selected. The review reads: I loved this show. The cast just mesh together so well and the laughs are constant, with enough frustration at Jimmy and his actions to keep you coming back for more to see if he redeems himself. If you need something to look forward to as a pick me up each week then space this out and watch an episode a week. Brilliant.

📺 Finished watching Masters of the Air (Apple TV+ 2024) ★★½

A review of the Apple TV+ series Masters of the Air (2024). Rated “Average”, the review reads “Pitched as Band of Brothers but for aircrew it misses the mark. The production itself is excellent as you'd expect from Apple and its deep pockets. The flying sequences, albeit with lots of CGI, are well done and you can't fault the sets or the costumes. However, I struggled to care about the characters. I know the mortality rate was high but when a character appears and then is gone the next episode I can't get invested. Overall, I preferred the Rosie Rosenthal and Harry Crosby characters to Buck and Bucky although the romantic subplot for Harry added nothing to the overall story. A generally enjoyable watch but not binge worthy.”

📺 Finished watching The Gentlemen (Netflix 2024) ★★★

A review of the Netflix series The Gentlemen (2024). Rated “Liked it”, the review “A spinoff of the movie of the same name it has a bit less violence, although it's still there, and leans more into the humour than the movie. The goofy brother being bailed out by the smart brother works as a plot device to allow for the slow descent into criminality that occurs. The pairing of the Duke and the daughter of the crime boss is good and they play off each pretty well. Vinnie Jones as the groundskeeper with the hinted at criminal past plays the part perfectly. I enjoyed it for what it is, a good bit of fun that doesn't require any effort to follow the plot lines.”

📺 Finished watching Shogun (2024) ★★★★★

A rectangular image with a review of the television series Shogun (Season 1). The show poster is on the left and the review on the right side. Across the bottom is a rating of Poor Okay Good Great with Great selected. The review reads: This may end up being my favourite show for 2024. The use of subtitles rather than all characters speaking English makes you pay attention but doesn’t distract at all from the show, it’s as much a part of what makes this great viewing as anything else. Stunning settings and attention to detail with costumes and buildings provide a wonderful backdrop to the complex and dramatic story as it plays out across the season. I very much hope there is a second season.

📺 Time to watch the Shogun finale. Held over last week’s so I could finish with a double episode.

📺 Finished watching Fallout (2024) ★★★½

A rectangular image with a review of the television series Fallout (Season 1). The show poster is on the left and the review on the right side. Across the bottom is a rating of Poor Okay Good Great with Good selected. The review reads: I’m always going to watch a show with a post-apocalyptic setting. Based on the game of the same name, which I’ve never played, you could see how each episode was probably a stage of the game as it progressed. A rollicking good blast of fun, you don’t need to know the game and can just sit back and enjoy the character quest, the mysteries popping up you would’ve needed to solve in the game, and the dark but entertaining characters.

📺 Finished watching 3 Body Problem (2024) ★★½

A rectangular image with a review of the television series 3 Body Problem (Season 1). The show poster is on the left and the review on the right side. Across the bottom is a rating of Poor Okay Good Great with Okay selected. The review reads: Complex and not for everyone. Some of the underlying plot lines needed better exposition but watchable. Perhaps having read the book I had higher hopes for this and was left feeling a bit underwhelmed by the end.

I like that Shogun has been coming out weekly rather than all at once. I’m really enjoying the show and it gives me something to look forward to. Plenty to binge watch in between. I’m about to finish Masters of the Air and then it’s either The Gentlemen or 3 Body Problem. 📺
